Birdwatching is for Hunters Too!

Deer hunters know that when they hear a rustling in the leaves they’re much more likely to see a squirrel or a bird than the deer that they’re waiting for, but you may not have considered that some of the best bird watching can be had in the deer stand while you are sitting there quietly waiting for your intended quarry. Birdwatching comes easily to deer hunters as most already have the tools needed for birdwatching with them in the stand: a good pair of binoculars and a smartphone. Although still an option, it is no longer necessary to carry around paper field guides and spending time flipping through pages of similar pictures trying to identify birds. With today’s technology and resources, birding has become much easier with field guides available at your fingertips, right on your smartphone. There are a variety of different apps to help you identify birds by sight, and there are also apps available that can help you identify birds through the calls and songs you are hearing. Birdwatching is a great way to pass the time with kids in the deer stand as well and keep them busy while also learning about the nature around them. Consider active birdwatching to take advantage of your sits in the woods and enjoy more of what Outdoor Alabama has to offer, including the birds!
