2023 Virginia Game Bird Hunting Regulations

What's New

  • The mallard bag limit has been liberalized from two birds per day back up to four birds per day (only two may be hens). See Regulations by Species.
  • The Canada goose season in the Atlantic Population (AP) Zone has also been liberalized. The season has increased from 30 to 45 days, and the bag limit has increased from one to two geese per day. See Regulations by Species.
  • The Southern James Bay Population (SJP) Canada Goose Hunt Zone has been eliminated. The northern portion of this zone (north of I-95) is now included in the Atlantic Population Zone, while the southern portion of this zone (south of I-95) is now included in the Resident Population (RP) Zone.   • The Atlantic brant season has been reduced from 50 days with a two-bird-per-day limit to 30 days with a one-bird-per-day limit. See Regulations by Species.
