2023 New Hampshire Hunting Regulations Cover

New for 2023–24

  • Deer and turkey may be registered online. Deer and turkey may also be registered in-person at a registration station. See Deer/Turkey Registration Stations for an up-to-date list of deer and turkey registration stations. Online deer registration will be unavailable during the first 2 days of muzzleloader season and first 3 days of firearms season to allow for collection of biological data. Deer must be checked in at registration stations on these days. See Deer/Turkey Registration Station for in-person only deer registration days.
  • The special sea duck season was eliminated in 2022–23. Sea ducks are now part of the general duck bag. See Waterfowl/Migratory Bird Hunting Regulations for more details.
  • It is illegal to take a turkey by reaping or fanning. See definitions for these methods of hunting on Turkey Hunting.
  • It is no longer required for hunters to register a harvested deer before taking another. This is not the same for turkey. It is unlawful to take a second turkey before registering the first.
  • Deer may be hunted on islands. Special permits are still required to hunt deer on Long and Governor's Islands in Lake Winnipesaukee. See Deer Hunting Regulations for details.
  • The ability for hunters to take an additional bear (with an additional tag) in select Wildlife Management Units does not go into effect until September 1, 2024. This option is not available for the 2023 season.
  • Hunters now have new options for reporting harvested bears. Successful bear hunters may register bears at a specified registration station, with a Conservation Officer or with specified Fish and Game personnel. A list of available registration stations and Department facilities where bears may be registered will be available by September 1, 2023. Call the Wildlife Division at 603-271-2461 or visit huntnh.com for a list of locations.
  • Effective January 1, 2024 - Hunters will be required to have written or verbal landowner permission to place game cameras on their property. State and municipal lands are exempt. Permissions granted expire on December 31 of each year unless extended or revoked by the landowner. Learn more about game camera law changes for 2024 on General Hunting Regulations.
