Youth Hunts

Q Quota Hunt: Only a set number of hunters are allowed on a given area and date. You must apply ahead of time and be drawn for a quota permit — see current regulations for how to apply.

b Bonus Hunt: You may take no more than two deer unless the area listing says otherwise. On antler-restricted areas, only one of those two may be an antlered buck. Bonus hunt deer are not entered on your Harvest Record or reported through Game Check. Instead, bring the animal (whole, field dressed, or quartered — head must be included) to the designated check station on the day of the harvest .

HC Specialty Hunt: These hunts are set aside for specific groups — youth under 16 years of age, women, hunters over 65 years of age, Returning Georgia Veteran Honorary License holders, and hunters with qualifying disabilities or mobility impairments.

s Sign-In Hunt: You must sign in before you start. All bear, deer, and turkey hunts on WMAs require sign-in; other species may require it where noted. Sign-in is required once per season or date range (e.g. quota deer hunt).

C Youth Hunt: For hunters under 16 years of age. A licensed adult (age 18+) must go with the youth and stay close enough to take control of the firearm at any moment. For big game, one adult may only supervise one youth and may not hunt. For small game, one adult may supervise up to two youth and may also hunt while actively supervising participating youth.

W Mobility Impaired Hunt: For hunters with qualifying mobility impairments. See license requirements. Each WMA’s listing will note which roads and mobility devices are allowed.

l Hunt & Learns: Hunt & Learn programs are one- to three-day educational events that teach new hunters about hunting, conservation, game identification, hunting tactics, and hunter safety. Designed for participants with little or no hunting experience, these programs provide a safe, hands-on learning environment and an opportunity to hunt a specific game animal. Programs are available for both youth and adults.

Either-Sex Last Day (or Last Two Days): The hunt is buck-only for most of the date range and opens to either sex only on the last one or two days. Example: a hunt running October 29–31 is buck-only on the 29th and 30th, and either-sex on the 31st.

Antlerless Only: Only deer with no antlers visible above the hairline — does and button bucks.

Buck Only: Only deer with antlers visible above the hairline.

Either-Sex: Any deer hunt with none of the above restrictions is either-sex by default.

Antler Restricted Area: Only antlered bucks having at least four points that are one inch or longer on either antler, or an outside antler spread of at least 15 inches are legal for harvest on antler restricted areas.

Archery-Only Area: Only archery gear is allowed, no matter what the statewide season allows. Fluorescent orange or blaze pink is not required in these areas.
