WMA Regulations: I-P

This section of the 2023-2024 Hunting Seasons and Regulations provides information related to lands managed for hunting by Wildlife Resources Division.

Small game and furbearers may be hunted subject to statewide seasons and bag limits except during quota hunts and unless otherwise specified in a specific area listing.

Please review the legend below. Each listing will have a list of applicable symbols located in its header as a quick reference.

Hunters must sign-in at check station at 12:00 p.m. Maps and instructions will be provided at sign-in. Hunt is 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. No ATVs. Hunters must use open gates to access fields; DO NOT climb fences. It is of utmost importance to have no litter left behind, including expended shotgun shells. Extra caution should be taken to ensure absolutely no live shells are left behind. No small game or May 16-31 coyote season.

From Ft. Gaines This WMA consists of 4 different tracts of land that can be found at various points along the lake shore. Directions to and maps of the various tracts can be obtained from: the Albany Game Management Office, 2024 Newton Rd., Albany, GA 31701; (229) 430-4254 and maps may be printed from gohuntgeorgia.com. In addition to the 4 tracts managed by GA DNR, the Army Corps of Engineers manages additional properties which require a special permit from their Ft. Gaines office at 229-768-2516.

Area Notes

No fishing or hunting (other than ducks & geese and archery deer hunting during statewide archery and primitive weapons season) on waterfowl impoundments. Waterfowl hunting on impoundment 1 & 3 open only to hunters selected in quota drawing. Waterfowl hunters are prohibited from entering impoundments before 5:00 a.m. on the day of the hunt and shooting hours end at noon except on the last hunt of the season when shooting hours end at legal sunset. Herndon Pond and Impoundment 2 are closed to hunting. Waterfowl hunting is prohibited on the Oconee River between Wallace Dam and GA Hwy 16. Handicapped quota hunters may request assistance by calling (706) 595-4222.

Directions

From Eatonton Go east 14.2 miles on GA Hwy 16, look for turn in for Impoundment 1 on left before you reach the bridge over the Oconee River. Sign-in kiosk is located in gravel parking lot.

Area Notes

No small game hunting. Hunters on Ossabaw Island WMA will be required to furnish their own boat transportation to & from the island. Limited docking space is available; some boats may have to stream anchor. All hunter access to the Island will be over the dock facilities at Newell Creek on the south end of the Island. Hunters may not enter upon Ossabaw Island until 12:00 p.m. EST one day prior to check-in. Hunters may check in at 9:00 a.m. EST one day prior to hunt & camps must be removed by 12:00 p.m. EST on the day following the hunt. One person from each campsite must check in and upon leaving check out from the campsite at the check station. No motorized vehicles, e-bikes, or bicycles allowed. Only permitted activities allowed. No pets. Campfires restricted to provided fire rings. No access permitted to Ossabaw above high tide mark.
