WMA Regulations: D-H

This section of the 2023-2024 Hunting Seasons and Regulations provides information related to lands managed for hunting by Wildlife Resources Division.

Small game and furbearers may be hunted subject to statewide seasons and bag limits except during quota hunts and unless otherwise specified in a specific area listing.

Please review the legend below. Each listing will have a list of applicable symbols located in its header as a quick reference.

Area Notes

All trails are closed all day during firearms deer hunts and before 10:00 a.m. during archery and turkey seasons. Special rules apply to horse, bicycle and camping use; rules are posted at trailhead, camping areas, WMA check station. Permits are required for horse, bicycle and camping use. Permits must be completed and on person to be valid. Roads on the city of Atlanta Tract are closed to vehicles daily from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. except for individuals legally camping, hunting or fishing on the area.

Directions

From Dawsonville Take GA HWY 53 west 6 miles; turn right onto driveway at kiosk; check station is at top of hill. Check in and Sign-in/out at kiosk on HWY 53; check out harvested game during managed hunts at check station. Sign-in and sign-out is also available at the Horse Camp.

From Bonaire (to Ocmulgee River tract) Take GA 96 east for 3.3 miles to boat ramp on Ocmulgee River; go north by boat on river approximately 10.5 miles. Tract is on west bank of the river. From Warner Robins (to Echeconnee Creek tract) From intersection of HWY 247C and HWY 247, take HWY 247 north 3.9 miles; turn right on Feagin Rd.; turn right on Santa Clara Dr.; tract is 0.2 miles on the right and left side of road.

From Elberton This WMA consists of 5 separate tracts in Elbert Co. Beverly Tract: Take GA HWY 72 east 5 miles; turn north on Pearl Mill Rd.; go 1.5 miles to area. Elbert Tract: Take GA HWY 72 east 10 miles to Bobby Brown State Park Rd.; turn south, area is east of road. Heardmont Tract: Take GA HWY 72 east 5 miles; turn north on Pearl Mill Rd.; bear right on Heardmont Rd.; turn right on Johnsontown Rd.; follow to area. Pickens Tract: From Elberton, take HWY 77 north 1.2 miles. Turn right and take Ruckersville Rd 11.4 miles. Turn right onto Turner Hill Rd. Take Turner Hill Rd. 1.5 miles. Turn right onto Cougar Pointe Dr. and follow to entrance sign. Vaughter Tract: Take GA HWY 77 north 3 miles and turn right onto HWY 368; go 3 miles to Harmony Rd.; turn left and continue to entrance sign on right.

From Mansfield: Go South on Hwy 11 for 7 miles and turn Right onto Henderson Mill Rd. Proceed 3.7 miles on Henderson Mill Rd and turn Right onto Davis Ford Rd. From there travel 0.4 miles to the Kiosk on the left.

For access by boat (nearest boat ramp is Raysville Bridge on GA HWY 43 approximately 12 miles north of Thomson). The area is to the east of bridge access.
