Things to know when buying online or by phone

  • Visiting a State Wildlife Area or State Trust Land? There is a new regulation you need to know about. See the frequently asked questions.
  • The 2021 annual license year runs 3/1/2021 - 3/31/2022 (13 months).
  • Over-the-counter unlimited spring turkey licenses go on sale March 1, 2021 and annual mountain lion licenses March 25, 2021.
  • Customers may use Visa, MasterCard or Discover credit cards. Visa, MasterCard, or Discover debit cards work if they can be used without a PIN. Licenses are mailed the business day following the purchase.
  • Customers must complete all requirements for Hunter Education before they apply for or buy a hunting license or before they apply for a preference point.
  • In most cases, you should receive licenses bought online or over the phone by mail within 10 days. Alternately, you may pick up your license at a sales agent location or Colorado Parks and Wildlife park or office.
  • Except for big game, turkey licenses, and the Colorado Waterfowl Stamp, a temporary authorization number (TAN) will be provided for the purchased license(s). The TAN is currently valid for 45 days after the date of purchase. Please print or write down (must be legible) the TAN and carry it with you while hunting or fishing until you receive your license. If the license OR all of the licenses you purchase in this transaction expire in less than 7 days, you will NOT receive anything in the mail.
  • If there are any issues, please contact the call center at (303) 297-1192 or a CPW park or office.
  • Telephone sales representatives at 1-800-244-5613 are trained to sell licenses and do not know specific wildlife-related information for Colorado. For questions not related to the sale of licenses, call Colorado Parks and Wildlife at (303) 297-1192.

Fall Turkey Licenses

Fall turkey leftover and over-the-counter licenses go on sale August 3.

The fall limited license turkey application period for 2021 was shortened this year to allow for fall turkey licenses to be used as qualifying licenses for the secondary draw. The application period opened May 1 and closed May 28.

Major 2022 Changes:

  • Novice adult outreach licenses for turkey are now available. Interested novice adults and sponsoring organizations can go to cpw.state.co.us/hunteroutreach to learn more.
  • You can now use a CPW gift certificate as your payment kept on file for your license. To use your gift certificate as payment for a license if you draw, you must enter the gift certificate information as the payment on file for your license, not just as the payment for your application, when submitting your application(s).

Read the Turkey Regulations brochure "What's New: 2022" section, and see the season dates and other important turkey hunting information.
