Hunting Bag Limits
What Should I Know About Colorado Hunting Regulations?
If you were born after January 1, 1949, Colorado requires you to complete a hunter education course before obtaining a hunting license. This is in addition to purchasing the correct license for the specific species you plan to hunt.
It’s important to understand the different license types — including qualifying, limited, and over-the-counter (OTC) licenses — and know which one applies to your hunt. Regulations also differ depending on whether you're a resident or non-resident hunter.
Colorado offers special hunting opportunities and license options for youth, military personnel, students, and hunters with disabilities, so be sure to check if you qualify for any of these programs.
If you're applying for a draw hunt, take time to learn how preference points work — they can significantly impact your odds of getting a license for high-demand hunts.
