These hunts are for special permit holders only. See Special Permit Application Instructions for instructions on how to apply.
You may purchase and submit up to six elk permit applications; one permit application per hunt category, for which you qualify, as listed in the following tables.
Only one elk may be taken per hunter during the hunting season, except for successful Master Hunter special permit applicants.
Individuals with hunter education deferrals for 2023 may not apply for special permits. For detailed information on the deferral process and hunter education requirements, please visit our website at: . You may only hunt with the hunting method in compliance with your tag. See Elk General Information for definitions of tag abbreviations (e.g., EA, EF, EM, WA, WF, WM).
Some private timberland owners in this hunt area are limiting access or charging fees for access. If you cannot secure access in advance, do not apply for these hunts.

Elk Hunt Notes
B	Military installation; access may be extremely limited.
C	Private lands; access is extremely limited. If you cannot secure access to private lands, do not apply for these hunts.

H	Must wear hunter orange and/or hunter pink.
HC	This is a damage hunt administered by a WDFW designated Hunt Coordinator. Successful applicants will be contacted on an as-needed basis to help with specific sites of deer/elk damage on designated landowner's property. Not all successful applicants will be contacted in any given year, depending on damage activity for that year.
HD	Hunters are expected to target elk displaying clinical signs of elk hoof disease such as limping, lameness, or hoof abnormalities and must submit the hooves from the elk they harvested to the department for inspection. If they successfully harvest an elk with clinical signs of elk hoof disease, they will be allowed to harvest an additional elk using their unfilled general season tag. Hunters that have already harvested an elk using their general season tag will not be allowed to harvest an additional elk.
L	Turnbull hunts will be administered by Turnbull NWR. For details visit https://www.fws.gov/refuge/turnbull/visit-us/activities/hunting or call (509) 235-4723.
P	Blackrock Ranches (Yakima Co.) and Silver Dollar (Yakima and Benton Cos) lie just west of the Hanford Monument. Hunting is managed for a quality experience by scheduling hunt dates and controlling hunter numbers. Hunters with limited flexibility for hunt dates may experience scheduling problems. Hunters can generally expect one day hunts during the permit season with written authorization from the hunt manager. All successfully drawn permit applicants will receive an information packet detailing hunt rules, regulations and scheduling.

R	Columbia Plateau Wildlife Management Association is located in Spokane Co. GMU 130 near Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge. All hunters must check in and out on hunt day. Hunter information must be filled out and returned to CPWMA before August 30. Applicants see website www.cpwma.org or contact the manager at 509-263-4616.
S	All hunters must be escorted to hunt locations by Centralia Mine staff. Successfully drawn applicants will receive an information packet detailing hunt rules, regulations and scheduling from TransAlta, owners of Centralia Mine. Individuals selected for these hunts will be granted a single weekend within the listed time frame. Coordination with the hunt manager is required when selecting specific weekend dates. This hunt is modern firearm only. Do not apply for this hunt if you plan to use any other weapon type. *Due to landscape conditions, all hunters, regardless of tag type, are required to use a rifle during these hunts.
Y	Successful applicants will receive a package including the Watershed entry regulations and an access permit from the USFS.
Z	Must use only archery, muzzleloader, or legal shotgun (10 or 12 gauge; slugs only).
