Do you appreciate the great hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities we have here in Tennessee? Do you know how you can help ensure these opportunities are available to future generations of Tennesseans? It’s easier than you might think…simply support the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Foundation.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Foundation (TWRF) was established as a 501c3 non-profit organization in 1999. The cornerstone of the TWRF’s mission is to support the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA). This includes the promotion of habitat conservation, responsible land stewardship, and Tennessee’s hunting and fishing heritage.
The Foundation also plays an important role in strategic land acquisition, purchasing and/or providing matching funds to TWRA to secure ecologically important tracts that provide opportunities for habitat conservation, restoration, and public usage. These efforts result in land that can be used by sportsmen and women today and passed on to future generations.
The TWRF is more than just an advocacy group; it’s an action group. The Foundation has restored nearly 700 acres prior converted wetlands in West Tennessee. Through the Tennessee Stream Mitigation Program, the Foundation has also restored more than 38 miles of degraded streams and over 500 acres of critical riparian habitat across Tennessee.
Habitat conservation and responsible land stewardship are ethics that must transcend our generation. Today’s youth live in a fast-paced and ever-changing world. While the Internet and social media keep them connected to events taking place all around the world, these same tools occupy their free time and prevent them from connecting to the natural world right here in their own backyard. That’s why the TWRF partners with the TWRA to administer a number of youth outdoor & education programs. These programs are geared toward education through experience. Kids participating in these programs not only learn about the environment and wildlife, but they get to experience it first-hand. Through programs such as Tennessee Kids Outdoors (TKO) and the Tennessee Outdoor Youth Summit (TOYS), the Foundation works with thousands of boys and girls in Tennessee each year.
If you’re interested in the promotion of habitat conservation, responsible land stewardship and Tennessee’s rich hunting and fishing heritage, we encourage you to join the TWRF and offer your support. Remember, if you want to help the TWRA support the TWRF! Through their fundraising efforts and support, the Foundation provides a synergy that helps TWRA realize its goals.
It is up to all of us to ensure that future generations of Tennesseans have the same opportunity to enjoy our wildlife resources and the outdoor legacy that has been passed down from countless generations.
