License Dollars at Work

Your license dollars are spent on an array of programs that foster and promote the conservation and management of fish and wildlife in New York. On average, NY sells approximately 1.9 million hunting, trapping and fishing licenses each year, the proceeds of which are deposited into the state’s Conservation Fund. The sale of sporting licenses is also critical in the state’s ability to receive its share of Federal Aid in Sport Fish and Wildlife Restoration Funds. The graphic below represents the use of funds from the traditional account of the Conservation Fund and Federal Aid dollars in support of some of the agency’s fish and wildlife management efforts.

The number of sporting licenses sold is based on sales in 2009. Allocations are based on projected spending for state fiscal year 2010.
