The acquisition of key parcels of wildlife habitat is an important part of the Department of Fish & Game’s and the DFW’s management programs. Wildlife is a product of the land and without good habitat wildlife populations cannot exist. Last year, land agents secured just over 6,000 acres of open space, bringing the total of lands owned by the Commonwealth and managed for wildlife and for recreation by the DFW to 187,141.6 acres.
