Our cool, clean waters provide healthy habitat for world class fishing and our experienced Maine Guides and others in our natural resources hospitality industry will ensure your experience is an unforgettable one.
The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife is as passionate about fishing as you are and works tirelessly toward smart and sustainable management of our State’s storied fisheries and access to them. We ask you to please follow the rules here in this law book to help preserve their hard work and our fisheries for yours and future generations to enjoy.
Now that you’ve discovered what has drawn anglers to Maine’s pristine waters for centuries, we hope you’ll return again soon. And, do spread the word (even if you don’t want to give up your own secret spot) about the quality and quantity of our fishing, the natural beauty of our great state and why Maine is the perfect place to invest in – for a vacation or a lifetime.
Go fish in Maine. We’re happy to have you here.

…you’re ever likely to have! From Sebago Lake to Grand Lake Stream – from Rangeley to the Allagash – welcome to the vast State of Maine and all of its angling resources.
With more than 6,000 lakes and ponds and 32,000 miles of rivers and streams, Maine attracts anglers from all over the world to fish for some of the finest species found anywhere.
Maine is home to more than 90% of the wild brook trout found in lakes and ponds in the United States. The wild brook trout of Maine are an unparalleled resource for future generations.
But brookies aren’t the only species – we’ve got exceptional landlocked salmon, brown and rainbow trout, and the explosive smallmouth bass as well!
While these will make for a memorable adventure, don’t forget that seeing a child or young person catch his or her first trout or bass or even a sunfish will make memories that will last a lifetime.
On behalf of the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife let me thank you for purchasing your license which helps the Department manage and maintain the fishing experience in all corners of the state.
So, enjoy fishing in the State of Maine and good luck with making those memories. Take a child fishing – and tight lines!
