Aroostook County

Waters open to ice fishing are listed with an A or a B code which defines the winter fishing season. All other waters are closed to ice fishing.

ALLAGASH WILDERNESS WATERWAY WATERS. See Piscataquis County, on Northern & Western Counties.

Allagash River from Allagash Falls downstream to the confluence with the St. John River, T15R10&11 WELS, Allagash. S-13. From October 1 – November 30: S-6, S-13. Open to taking bass and muskellunge only.

Aroostook River: All salmon caught in any flowing water of the Aroostook River Watershed, must be released alive at once.

  • From the junction of Munsungan Stream and Millinocket Stream in T8R8 WELS downstream to the blue markers at the Oxbow Plantation/T9R7 WELS town line (includes tributaries upstream to the first highway bridge): S-6, S-17. From August 16 – September 30: S-6; Total daily bag limit on trout and togue: 1 fish.
  • From the Caribou Dam, in Caribou, downstream to the Maine/New Brunswick border (includes tributaries upstream to the first highway bridge): S-6, S-17. From August 16 – September 30: S-6; Total daily bag limit on trout and togue: 1 fish.

Umsaskis Lake (including thoroughfare to Long Lake) and tributaries, upstream to the Allagash Wilderness Waterway blazed line, T11R13 WELS. S-16. Minimum length on whitefish: 16 inches. From August 16 – September 30: tributaries open with a total daily bag limit on trout and togue of 1 fish, S-6. Minimum length on whitefish: 16 inches.

AWW Watercraft Restrictions (Summary):

A. From the south end of Telos Lake to the north end of Chamberlain Lake, the use of all models of personal watercraft (PWC), hovercraft, airboats, racing boats, and pontoon boats is prohibited.

B. From Lock Dam Stream, where it enters Eagle Lake north to twin Brook Rapids, only canoes without motors or motors not exceeding 10 hp, may be used on the watercourse.

C. On Allagash Lake and Allagash Stream to the red markers at the entrance of Chamberlain Lake, all watercraft are prohibited except canoes without motors.

D. Except on Telos and Chamberlain Lakes, the use of inflatable watercraft is prohibited.

E. Water skiing or other activities in which individuals are towed behind watercraft are prohibited.
