This section of the 2012–2013 Hunting Seasons and Regulations provides information related to all lands managed for hunting by Wildlife Resources Division.

The information is presented by Game Management regions. Each listing provides the specific information applicable to that WMA/PFA/State Park. However, if you require additional information, a contact number is provided with each listing.

Special Regs

If the river stage is 9 feet or higher, measured at the Doctortown Gauge, the gates will be closed. No firearms deer hunting within designated archery-only areas but legal firearms permitted for turkey and small game hunting. Deer hunters may not hunt within 50 feet of the nature trail. Dogs prohibited on Archery Only Area from Mar. 1-Nov. 1. Foot traffic only in Archery Only Area. Hunter orange is not required on Archery Only Area.

Directions

From Glennville Take HWY 144 south 12 miles to Altamaha River. Area lies on both sides of HWY 144.

Special Regs

Montgomery County Tract access is limited to foot or boat travel only and is quality buck which means bucks must have a minimum of four points (1 inch or longer) on one side. No firearms deer hunting within designated archery-only areas (Ocmulgee and Towns Bluff Tracts) but legal firearms permitted for turkey and small game hunting.

The WMA will be closed to all users during dog deer hunts except to hunters with a valid quota permit.

Bears may not be taken on the Federal portion of Cowhouse Island.

  • q3 General Hunt: Jan. 5 . Hunting allowed in waterfowl impoundment only. No boats allowed. Maximum of 3 people per blind. Parties must stay in designated spots, must stay together, and must stay within 100 feet of blind marker except when retrieving game. Shooting hours until 12 noon.

Alligator

Sept. 14-16 . Night hunting only.

Special Regs

Closed every Monday and Tuesday.

Directions

From Claxton Take U.S. HWY 280 east for 8.5 miles; turn right on Old Sunbury Rd.; go 1 mile and turn left on Area Line Rd.; go 0.3 miles, PFA on right.

Special Note

Evans PFA will be under construction from June 1, 2012 to May 1, 2013. Lake Woody (30 ac) will potentially be dry during this time. Therefore, hunting success may be poor because of no water in the lake. Any individual who has been selected through the quota system and is planning on hunting during these scheduled hunts should call the regional Fisheries Management office (912) 727-2112 ahead of time to check on road and lake conditions prior to hunting.

Special Regs

Harvested deer must be removed from the area whole (no field-dressing). Outboard motors in waterfowl impoundments limited to 10hp or less. No ATVs or motorcycles allowed on area. A valid Moody Air Force Base Hunting and Fishing Permit may be substituted for WMA license. Hiking trail from check station closed to hikers during firearms deer hunts. Federal lands within WMA may be closed for military training.

SPECIAL REGS

Selected hunters will sign-in at the Sign-in Station after 12:00 P.M. on the day of the hunt. Maps and instructions will be provided at sign-in. Hunting will be open only from 12:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. on the day of the hunt. No ATVs will be allowed on the fields. Hunters must use open gates to access fields; DO NOT climb fences. It is of utmost importance to have no litter left behind, including expended shotgun shells. Extra caution should be taken to ensure absolutely no live shells are left behind!

DIRECTIONS

From Lyons Take Hwy 152 North (New Cobbtown Rd.) approximately 2.9 miles and turn right on Indian Ford Farm Rd. Proceed approximately 0.7 miles to building on left to sign-in area for the hunt.

■ Rogers State Prison Farm Dove Fields

Special Regs

Hunters must sign-in at the Sign-In Kiosks located at the entrances to each field prior to hunting. A map of the fields will be located in the kiosks (and on our website) with designated parking areas delineated on the maps. State hunting regulations will apply to the dovefields for the first segment of the dove season. No ATVs or UTVs will be allowed on the fields. No hunting within 100 yards of residences or 50 yards of county roads. Hunters must use open gates to access fields; DO NOT climb fences. Please leave no litter behind, which includes spent shotgun shells. Extra caution should be taken to ensure no live shells are left on the field.

Directions

From Reidsville take GA Highway 147 approximately 6.5 miles to intersection with Hwy 178. Turn left on Hwy 178 and proceed 1.5 miles to dirt road on the right that leads to entrance of field 1 and the parking area.
