DDS Commissioner & Board Messages
Dear Georgia Drivers:
The Department of Driver Services (DDS) is proud to provide the Georgia Commercial Driver’s Manual to assist customers who wish to obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL). I hope you will study this information very carefully as operating a commercial vehicle requires the development of special skills and the knowledge of numerous safety standards.
Due to Georgia’s expanding economy, job opportunities for CDL holders are on the rise. Our state continues to be recognized as the number one place in the nation to do business, and for this reason, CDL employment is projected to grow 12 percent over the next few years. DDS is proud to be a part of this important initiative.
DDS has implemented several improvements to the commercial driver licensing process. Perhaps the most useful to you will be the online services at www.dds.georgia.gov and the new DDS 2 GO mobile app. In addition to testing information, by creating your own personal account using DDS Online Services, you may review, update and transact business with our agency at the convenience of your home or smartphone.
As DDS continues to create ways to better serve you, we ask that you make safe driving a priority!

The Department of Driver Services (DDS) Board of Directors would like to remind our customers that driving in Georgia is a privilege that carries many responsibilities. Please be a safe and dependable driver to ensure that this privilege will not be lost. This manual has two main purposes:
(1) to help you qualify for a Georgia commercial driver’s license; and
(2) to help you become a safe driver.
This guide is designed to provide you with the information to obtain and keep this type of license. Other manuals are available for noncommercial drivers, motorcycle operators, and teens learning to drive.
