Northern Bear Zone

In Banks, Barrow, Bartow, Catoosa, Chattooga, Cherokee, Dade, Dawson, Fannin, Floyd, Forsyth, Franklin, Gilmer, Gordon, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Jackson, Lumpkin, Madison, Murray, Pickens, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union, Walker, White, Whitfield Cos.:

  • Archery: Sept. 14-Oct. 11
  • Primitive Weapons: Oct. 12-18
  • Firearms: Oct. 19-Dec. 1

Hunting bears with dogs or over bait is prohibited.Harvested bears must be reported to personnelof the Wildlife Resources Division, GainesvilleOffice (770) 535-5700 or ArmucheeOffice (706) 295-6041 within 24 hours ofharvest. After hours, call 1-800-241-4113. At a minimum, the hide and skull must be taken to the Gainesville or Armuchee office within 3 business days of harvest for tagging. Harvested bears may also be checked at any WMA checkstation in the counties listed above that areopen for a managed deer/bear/hog hunt between8 a.m.–8 p.m. during the bear season.

Central Bear Zone

In Bibb, Houston, Twiggs Cos.:

  • Firearms: Dec. 14

Hunting bears with dogs or over bait is prohibited. Hunting bears on WMAs in the Central Zone is prohibited.Harvested bears mustbe checked and tagged at the Oaky WoodsWMA check station between 12 noon and9 p.m. on the day of the hunt.

Southern Bear Zone

In Brantley, Charlton, Clinch, Echols and Ware Cos.:

  • Firearms: Sept. 26-28, Oct. 3-5, Oct. 10-12

Hunting with dogs is allowed. Hunting overbait is prohibited. Bears must be checked and tagged at one of these locations: Fargo Georgia Forestry Commission Office – Noon to 9 p.m., all hunt days; Waycross DNR Office – Thursdays and Fridays 8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m., Saturdays Noon – 9 p.m., Sept. 26-28, Oct. 10-12; Dixon Memorial WMA – Oct. 3-5, 8 a.m.- 8 p.m.

Statewide Season Limit

Twoprovided, however, that no more than one of which may be taken from the Southern or Central Zones.
