To All Hunter Education Course Participants

To All Hunter Education Course Participants:

Since January 1st, 2010, section 501 Delaware Code Title 7 has required all basic hunter education students to participate in a live firing experience with a trained firearms instructor in order to successfully complete the course.

Insurance rules of the State of Delaware require all participants in any course which includes live firing to sign the attached “Release From Liability Waiver” before taking part in the live firing. This form is a legal release.

First: choose a course and sign up (online signup at or call 302-735-3600)

Second: If you are 18 or older, you don’t need to have the waiver notarized but you need to fill it out, sign it and mail it back.

If you are under 18, a parent or guardian needs to sign the waiver for you and have their signature verified by a notary.

You may find notarization by an official at your bank or library to be the easiest solution. You can also bring the document and a valid ID or driver license to the Fish & Wildlife Headquarters at 89 Kings Highway in Dover. We’ll be glad to notarize it for you.

Third: mail the original, signed Waiver of Liability (with notarized signatures of parents or guardians of minor students under 18) to:

Office of Hunter Education
6180 Hay Point Landing Road
Smyrna, DE 19977

To complete you course registration, your original waiver must be received by the office of hunter education seven (7) days before the course starting date. You must provide us with the original signed waiver if you want to participate. All required information must be provided. Sorry, we cannot accept any waivers sent by fax.

If you have any questions or want to check and make sure that your original waiver has arrived at our office, feel free to call us at 302-735-3600 during the week before your course. If you mailed in your waiver but are unable to attend the class you signed up for, please call us after you have made a new selection so that we can place your waiver with the new class and date. We look forward to seeing you in Hunter Education soon.
