The following areas are open to public hunting. The key to the left specifies what type of hunting is permitted. Lottery deer hunting areas are listed elsewhere in this guide. Special tags, stamps, and permits are needed when hunting some species. Consult season descriptions for the species you are hunting. Consult firearms restrictions. Access Descriptions & Special Conditions
Aldo Leopold WMA: Very limited off-road parking available on Kuhne, Purchase Brook, Little York and East Flat Hill roads.
Charles E. Wheeler WMA: Access points from under I95 bridge and at east end of Court Street, Milford.
East River WMA: Access by boat only.
Great Harbor WMA: Reached by leaving southwest corner of Guilford Green and going west on Water Street or Rte. 146 for a distance of 1.7 miles. Area is north and south of road.
East Swamp WMA: Entrance by Little League Ball Field area off Maple Avenue.
Centennial Watershed State Forest: Easton, Weston. Portions open to deer bowhunting by special access permits only. Access permits available from the Aquarion Water Company’s Aspetuck Environmental Center, 714 Black Rock Road (Rte. 58), Easton. Consult the DEP’s website (www.ct.gov/dep) for updated information.
Centennial Watershed State Forest: Monroe — east of Rte 25 in Upper Stepney, east on Pepper Street and right on Gardner Road (property west of Gardner Road). Shelton — north of Means Brook Reservoir off Saw Mill Road (east of Means Brook).
Great Swamp Flood Control Area: All portions north of Farmingville Road are closed to firearms hunting and open for bowhunting only.
Naugatuck State Forest – Quillinan Reservoir Block: No access or parking from Deerfield Lane or Ansonia Nature Center property. Area west of Clinton Road has been designated as a Deer Bowhunting only area.
Paugussett State Forest: Areas north and south which front Rte. 34 are closed to all firearms hunting. These sections have been designated as Deer Bowhunting Only areas. Other areas of the forest that are open to firearms hunting are open for the regular state land bowhunting seasons.
Pequonnock Valley Permit-Required Area: Special restrictions apply. Hunting permitted on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays only from third Saturday in October through the Saturday prior to Christmas Day.
Quinnipiac River State Park Permit-Required Area: Access from Banton Street.
Trout Brook Valley State Park: Portions of area open for deer and turkey hunting. Fall bowhunting for deer and turkey, spring turkey hunting, fall firearms turkey hunting and muzzleloader deer hunting by special access permit only. Access permits available from Greiser Store, Rte. 136 and Center Rd., Easton.
Wallingford Town Owned Area: Hunting permitted on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays only from third Saturday in October through the last day in February.
