LITCHFIELD – HARTFORD COUNTIES
Camp Columbia State Forest: A portion of Camp Columbia State Forest is a Designated Deer Bowhunting Only Area.
Centennial Watershed State Forest – Canaan Block: The 146 acre parcel of the forest west of Old North Road is open to hunting. All other areas of Centennial Watershed SF in Canaan are closed to hunting.
Enders State Forest – Worthen Parcel: Designated Deer Bowhunting Only Area. Access and parking from Rte 20/Fox Rd. gate only. Portions closed to all hunting.
Flaherty Field Trial Area: Turn east from Rte. 5 opposite East Windsor High School. Shooting and non-shooting field trial area.
Nod Brook Management Area: Avon, Simsbury between Farmington River and railroad tracks, off Rte. 10, approximately 1 mile north of Rte. 10/Rte. 44 junction in Avon. Shooting and non-shooting field trial area. Closed during events.
Black Rock Lake: Portions of area open to hunting through cooperation of the Army Corps of Engineers. Firearms hunting limited to shotgun ammunition only. Firearms hunting prohibited between March 30 and the third Saturday in October. Target or trap shooting prohibited.
Bloomfield Flood Control Areas Site 2: Site 2 is leased to the town of Bloomfield and a special permit from the town clerk is required to hunt small game under special restrictions. Open during the pheasant season only. Site 3 is no longer open to hunting.
Hancock Brook Lake: Open to hunting through cooperation of the Army Corps of Engineers. Firearms hunting limited to shotgun ammunition only. Target or trap shooting prohibited.
Thomaston Dam: Open to hunting through cooperation of the Army Corps of Engineers. Firearms hunting limited to shotgun ammunition only. Firearms hunting prohibited between March 30 and the third Saturday in October. Target or trap shooting prohibited.
Bristol Fish & Game Permit-Required Area: Special restrictions apply. See vendor for details.
NU-Skiff Mtn. Coop WMA: Sharon (east and west of Skiff Mtn. Road). Leased from Northeast Utilities.
Sessions Woods WMA: Area open to fall bowhunting for deer or turkey by permit. Portions open for firearms turkey hunting by daily permit. Permits issued in accordance with the procedures used for other Permit-Required Hunting Areas. Waterfowl hunting by daily permit in designated blind only. Handicapped hunters are given preference in the distribution of waterfowl hunting permits. Permits available at the Sessions Woods office on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Suffield Sportsmen’s Assoc. Permit-Required Area: From North Street, Windsor Locks, north to Massachusetts state line, east to the Connecticut River, and south to Russel Road, East Granby.
MIDDLESEX – TOLLAND COUNTIES
Babcock Pond WMA: Specially designed trails for the physically disabled. Wheelchair accessible waterfowl hunting blind.
Silvio O. Conte NWR – Salmon River Division: Open to hunting through cooperation of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Access from Rte 151 on Salmon River Road.
Cromwell Meadows WMA: Cromwell, Middletown (north of Sebethe River, west of railroad tracks). Enter area by turning west from Rte 9 on South Street, Cromwell. Entrance is approximately ½ mile from Rte. 9. No trap or target shooting.
Durham Meadows WMA: North of Rte. 17 one mile south of village.
East Windsor/Enfield-Permit Required Area: Two parcels of Scantic River State Park are included in the Permit-Required Hunting Area.
Eight Mile River WMA: Access from Salem Rd. Park in designated field parking only. No roadside parking. No hunting in Wagner Wildlife Sanctuary.
Great Island WMA: Mouth of Connecticut River. Can be reached by boat only. Take Rte. 156 from Old Lyme, turn right at four corners, after railroad underpass known as Smith’s Neck Road. Continue on hard surface to state boat launching site.
Haddam Neck: Access by boat only.
Holbrook Pond: Drive north on Rte. 85 out of Hebron Center and take second paved road to right.
Kollar WMA: Use River Road or Babcock Road north of I84.
Larson Lot WMA: Shailor Hill Road west of Rte. 149.
Lord’s Cove WMA: Boat access approximately ½ mile on Rte. 156 from Rte. 1 to first town landing most commonly used.
Nott Island: Boat access approximately ½ mile on Rte. 156 from Rte. 1 to first town landing most commonly used.
Ragged Rock Creek WMA: Located on the Connecticut River north and south of Ragged Rock Creek. Reached by boat from state-owned launch in Old Saybrook under Baldwin Bridge.
Salmon River Cove and Haddam Neck: Access by boat only.
Scantic River State Park: Three parcels open to bowhunting for deer or turkey. Two of the three parcels open for small game, waterfowl and spring turkey bowhunting. From the third Saturday in October through the first Saturday in December, a daily permit for the East Windsor/Enfield Permit-Required Area is required to hunt small game and waterfowl.
Wopowog WMA: East of Rte. 196, ¼ mile north of Rte. 151/Rte. 196 junction.
Cockaponset State Forest: Some sections within the town of Madison are closed to all firearms hunting. These sections have been designated as Deer Bowhunting Only areas. Contact the Wildlife Division for locations. Other areas of the forest that are open to firearms hunting are open for the regular state land bowhunting seasons.
Nye Holman State Forest: Sections adjacent to field archery range in Tolland are closed to all firearms hunting and are designated deer bowhunting only areas. Youth camping area is closed to all hunting.
NU-Kings Island Coop WMA: Special restrictions apply. Waterfowl hunting only. Area may be closed before the end of the waterfowl season. Access at Parsons Road boat launch.
NU-Maromas Coop WMA: North and south of Aircraft Road, and south of River Road (2 parcels). Leased from Northeast Utilities.
WINDHAM – NEW LONDON COUNTIES
Barn Island WMA: Six miles from Mystic center on Rte 1 toward Westerly, RI, turn at head of Wequetequock Cove, bear right to Sound.
Bartlett Brook WMA: Access off Goshen Hill Road, southeast of Rte. 16.
Bear Hill WMA: Access by Bishop Rd. off Rte. 163. Specially designed trails for the physically disabled.
Quinebaug River WMA (Aspinook Pond): Parcel off Butts Bridge Road south of the powerlines is open to bowhunting only.
Spignesi WMA: East and west of Rte. 97, north of Rte. 14. Includes 153 acres of private land under public hunting easement.
Rose Hill WMA: East of Rte. 117, south of Rte. 2 to Thomas Road. No target or trap shooting.
Natchaug State Forest: 143 acre parcel in North Windham is closed to all firearms hunting and is designated as a Deer Bowhunting Only area.
Nehantic State Forest: Some sections in Salem, Old Lyme and Lyme are closed to all firearms hunting. These sections have been designated as Deer Bowhunting Only areas.
Pachaug State Forest: Parcel between Rte. 49 and Rte. 165 is closed to all firearms hunting and is a designated deer bowhunting only area. Other sections posted as no firearms hunting are also considered designated deer bowhunting only areas.
Harkness Memorial State Park: A portion of the park north of Rte. 213 (former Verkade property) is designated as a Deer Bowhunting Only area. Special access permits are required. Inquire at Park Manager’s Office.
Mansfield State-Leased Field Trial Area: Access via Old Windham Road, North Windham side. Shooting and non-shooting field trial area.
Sugarbrook Field Trial Area: Located 2 miles east of Rte. 14/Rte. 14A junction. Shooting and non-shooting field trial area.
Lebanon Cooperative Management Area: Hunting only in area located south of Old Rte. 2 (Norwich Ave.). Area owned by the Dept. of Agriculture and leased for farming.
Woodstock Landowners Permit-Required Area: Rte. 171 from West to South Woodstock and Rte. 169 from South to North Woodstock.
Yale Forest Permit-Required Area: Area open from September 1 through February 28 for small game, waterfowl and turkey hunting by seasonal access permit. Parking passes are also required. See vendor for details.
FAIRFIELD – NEW HAVEN COUNTIES
Aldo Leopold WMA: Very limited off-road parking available on Kuhne, Purchase Brook, Little York and East Flat Hill roads.
Charles E. Wheeler WMA: Access points from under I95 bridge and at east end of Court Street, Milford.
East River WMA: Access by boat only.
Great Harbor WMA: Reached by leaving southwest corner of Guilford Green and going west on Water Street or Rte. 146 for a distance of 1.7 miles. Area is north and south of road.
East Swamp WMA: Entrance by Little League Ball Field area off Maple Avenue.
Centennial Watershed State Forest: Easton, Weston, Monroe, Newtown, Trumbull. Portions open to deer bowhunting by special access permits only. Access permits available from the Aquarion Water Company’s Aspetuck Environmental Center, 714 Black Rock Road (Rte. 58), Easton. Consult the DEEP’s website (www.ct.gov/deep/hunting) for updated information.
Centennial Watershed State Forest: Monroe — east of Rte 25 in Upper Stepney, east on Pepper Street and right on Gardner Road (property west of Gardner Road). 34 acre parcel on Hattertown Rd. is open to deer/turkey bowhunting only. Shelton — north of Means Brook Reservoir off Saw Mill Road (east of Means Brook).
Great Swamp Flood Control Area: All portions north of Farmingville Road are closed to firearms hunting and open for bowhunting only.
Naugatuck State Forest – Quillinan Reservoir Block: No access or parking from Deerfield Lane or Ansonia Nature Center property. Area west of Clinton Road has been designated as a Deer Bowhunting only area. Closed to waterfowl hunting.
Paugussett State Forest: Areas north and south which front Rte. 34 are closed to all firearms hunting. These sections have been designated as Deer Bowhunting Only areas. Other areas of the forest that are open to firearms hunting are open for the regular state land bowhunting seasons.
Pequonnock Valley Permit-Required Area: Special restrictions apply. Hunting permitted on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays only from third Saturday in October through the Saturday prior to Christmas Day.
Quinnipiac River State Park Permit-Required Area: Access from Banton Street.
Trout Brook Valley State Park: Portions of area open for deer and turkey hunting. Fall bowhunting for deer and turkey, spring turkey hunting, fall firearms turkey hunting and muzzleloader deer hunting by special access permit only. Access permits available from Greiser Store, Rte. 136 and Center Rd., Easton.
